THE DOMESTICS

THE DOMESTICS formed in the summer of 2011, and played our first gig in December of that year on the day that the debut album, Keep It Lean, was released. That’s probably not how this stuff is supposed to work but we’ve never been ones for doing things in the accepted fashion. Fusing fast, aggressive hardcore punk, socio-political lyrics and catchy, shout-along choruses (I always want there to be proper songs, not just riffs and shouting), we draw primarily on the U.S., Japanese and Swedish scenes, but with an unmistakable hint of our native UK in my London-Essex noise-hole.

BANDCAMP

Snuffed Out (2017)

This was the first 'proper' video we made. Snuffed Out  is from the Cherry Blossom Life LP, released on Christmas Day, 2017 (for some inexplicable reason we thought this was a good idea!)

“Every song is pummelling, to the point, fierce and full of fucking energy. Seriously, if you’re gonna play hardcore, don’t fuck around.  THE DOMESTICS got the memo.” (MAXIMUM ROCK ‘N’ ROLL)

Cherry Blossom Life (2019)

This video for Cherry Blossom Life - somewhat confusingly NOT on the Cherry Blossom Life album, but on the Hardkore Dokument #1 7" compilation - was, I think, the third video we we've made, and it's my favourite so far.  All we did was put on a gig in the front room of a house in Ipswich, got a load of booze in for the local punkers, and played. I think ABANDON CAUSE played too...I probably have a flyer somewhere...my memory is shot!

“…off the charts in terms of ferocity and power…” (PUNK ONLINE)

No Life (2020)

As a counterpoint to the hyper-brevity of Discipline, we released another split with PIZZATRAMP in 2020.  This one was a 12" on which each band contributed just one song.  Ours was called No Life and it's far too long for us to make a video for! People keep asking us if we'll ever play it live and at the peak of rehearsal for recording it, we could have easily done that...but now, er...I dunno, maybe one day!

"THE DOMESTICS kick things off on side A with No Life, a superb slice of fast, aggressive hardcore, which broadens into different tempos and dynamics, and includes piano, synths and strings! Don’t get the idea that they’ve gone all soft though – singer James’s gruff voice is in fine fettle throughout, they go all Crass on us two-thirds the way through, and at the end you’re still left feeling like you’ve been through a tumble dryer." (IPA MUSIC)

Discipline (2018)

Somewhere between the Cherry Blossom Life album and the track on the Harkore Dokument #1 compilation, we did the split 5" record Discipline with welsh carnage-mongers, PIZZATRAMP - three songs from each band in under a minute each (a minute is all the music you can fit on one side of a 5" so we created our own parameters). this is effectively three videos - one for each song on our side of the record - rolled into one.  What were we thinking?!

“…will peel the paint off your walls…If you’re still listening to those old, worn out DISCHARGE records and lamenting having missed some mythical era thirty-odd years back, believe me when I say you’re seriously missing the fuck out.” (RAZORCAKE)
